Thousands of open source libraries that power production systems are unmaintained. The authors moved on. Nobody adopted the project. The libraries still get millions of weekly downloads because they work, but they accumulate unpatched vulnerabilities, unmerged pull requests, and version incompatibilities. Companies that depend on these packages have no good option except forking them or replacing them.
An agent-based service could take over routine maintenance: triaging issues, applying security patches, running test suites, and keeping dependencies current. The business model is a subscription sold to companies that depend on specific libraries in their production stack. The entry point is to identify the 50 most widely downloaded unmaintained npm or PyPI packages, pick five, and offer the maintainers a managed handoff. Enterprise buyers who need a vendor they can hold accountable already have this problem.
